Love For The Streets is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization on a mission to combat hunger, homelessness, and hopelessness in one of America's most underserved communities — Skid Row. Founded in 2021 by Zhane Carter, the organization has grown from a one-person outreach effort into a movement that regularly distributes thousands of pounds of food each month to individuals experiencing homelessness.
Skid Row, located in downtown Los Angeles, is home to one of the largest concentrations of unhoused people in the United States. Many of the people living there face daily challenges including food insecurity, lack of sanitation, mental health struggles, and limited access to social services. Love For The Streets shows up — week after week — to meet these neighbors where they are, delivering meals, starter packages, hygiene kits, and most importantly, human connection.
Our core program centers on food distribution. Volunteers and team members gather food donations, purchase supplies, and transport thousands of pounds of nutritious food directly to Skid Row every week. We believe that no one should go hungry, and that the act of sharing a meal is one of the most powerful expressions of love and dignity.
Beyond food, we provide starter packages — collections of essential personal items such as clothing, toiletries, and basic supplies — to help individuals begin rebuilding stability in their lives. We also connect community members in need with local resources, shelters, and services to help them find a path forward.
Since our founding in 2021, Love For The Streets has distributed over tens of thousands of pounds of food to the Skid Row community. Each pound represents a meal, a moment of relief, and a reminder to a fellow human being that they are seen, valued, and loved. Our work is fueled entirely by the generosity of donors, volunteers, and supporters from across Los Angeles and beyond.
